With the acquisition of Kolmiokirja and Sanaris – two of Finland’s most beloved puzzle publishers – we’ve completed a key piece of our Nordic puzzle. This move strengthens our market-leading position and brings even more creative momentum to our mission: growing braintainment across the region with curiosity, craft, and collaboration.
Keesing Media Group has significantly expanded its Nordic footprint with the acquisition of Kolmiokirja Oy and Sanaris Oy, two of Finland’s most established and respected puzzle publishers. This strategic move positions Keesing Suomi Oy as the new market leader in Finnish puzzle publishing, and marks a key milestone in our ambition to scale braintainment leadership across Europe.
Following the successful 2023 acquisition of Onni Kustannus, this integration signals more than growth; it represents a deliberate step toward regional consolidation, editorial depth, and digital innovation. Finland joins Sweden and Denmark as markets where Keesing holds a dominant position, unlocking powerful opportunities for cross-market content development, partner solutions, and consumer engagement.
“This move brings together the heritage of Kolmiokirja, the premium puzzle content of Sanaris, and the strong brand portfolio of Onni—all under one roof,” says Anders Juhlin, Managing Director, Keesing Nordics.
“It allows us to scale up while staying close to the market. That combination is key to our continued growth.”
Accelerating the Braintainment boom
For industry watchers and partners, this move highlights the accelerating momentum behind braintainment; a fast-growing category that fuses cognitive stimulation with broad consumer appeal. From traditional crosswords to AI-powered formats, braintainment sits at the intersection of wellbeing, play, and daily habit, offering publishers, platforms, and brands a unique way to engage audiences with content that’s both entertaining and mentally rewarding.
As the world’s largest braintainment publisher, Keesing is leading this fast-evolving category, blending local editorial expertise with scalable technology to deliver high-quality, culturally relevant puzzle experiences across print, digital and media platforms.
With this acquisition, Keesing Nordics now comprises:
- Over 70 puzzle enthusiasts across four countries
- More than 180 magazine titles
- Close to 1,500 issues published annually
- Stronger digital B2B offerings for leading media partners
- And a market-defining consumer portfolio in Finland
The acquisitions also enhance our ability to serve enterprise clients with interactive puzzle content, especially through channels like media syndication, e-commerce, and subscription models.
Scaling what’s possible
This deal is not just about scale, it’s about capability. We’re building a platform that allows us to move faster, think locally, and operate globally. It also signals our continued investment in editorial talent, digital infrastructure, and business partnerships in a region known for its high puzzle engagement.
