Keesing Media Group (Keesing) is continuing its expansion programme. After the acquisition of Ediciones Pléyades in Madrid in June, the company announced the acquisition of Switzerland’s Küng Verlags Group today. Amsterdam-based Keesing is Europe’s largest publisher of puzzle magazines and other braintainment content and the acquisition will strengthen this position still further.

Over the past 20 years, the Küng Group, led by Thomas Küng, has become Swiss market leader in the puzzles sector and shows very healthy growth. The company comprises Küng Verlags AG which has a large assortment of puzzle magazines, books and digital publishing products and Rätsel Agentur AG, which supplies the B2B segment with print and online puzzles in three national languages and offers prize game services to its customers.

Sole owner Thomas Küng said the sale to the Keesing Media Group is a logical move which will ensure the continuation of the company. “I was searching for a suitable buyer that would offer my company and my employees future perspective,’ he said. ‘This is a highly competitive market and selling to a strong competitor was always one of the realistic options. Keesing stands for long-term strategy in the puzzle sector. That is also a reason why I ultimately decided to choose Keesing.”

“We are very happy that we can take over the Küng Group from Thomas Küng,” said Philip Alberdingk Thijm, CEO of the Keesing Media Group. “Küng Verlags AG and the Rätsel Agentur AG fit very well into the Keesing family and they will benefit considerably from the group synergies.”

The acquisition was completed on July 1, 2021. The purchase price was not disclosed.
