Aller media continues to streamline its brand portfolio by disposing of its print crossword brands to the Keesing Media Group (Keesing). The divestment is a strategic transaction, in which Aller media will still retain crosswords as part of its business within family magazines, while freeing up additional resources to target new investments at the female target group in Sweden, primarily in the digital sector. Aller media and the Keesing Media Group also enter into a long-term partnership on crossword content. The sale is an element of Aller media’s digital transition, with a strategy of increased digital growth.

“The divestment of our crossword titles gives us more opportunities to increase our investments in line with our digital strategy, in which we continue to invest to further strengthen our position towards women in Sweden. At the same time, our long-term partnership with Keesing will also enable us to continue to offer high-quality crosswords to our readers. With the new owner, the crossword titles will have better conditions to develop strongly in the future, which we can also benefit from in our new partnership with the Keesing Media Group”, says Bodil Ericsson Torp, CEO of Aller media.

The Keesing Media Group is Europe’s leading company in the field of crossword content and magazines. Keesing is active in 12 European countries and has offices in 8, including Sweden. The company has approximately 350 employees and also operates as a supplier of crossword content to other actors in the industry. Keesing has more than 100 years’ experience of crosswords and yearly publishes more than 1200 magazine titels.

“We embrace tradition while still keeping our finger on the pulse. Keesing entertains millions of people every day. Simultaneously, tomorrow is being shaped with investments in online platforms and other young business models. We are delighted with our acquisition of the Aller media crossword titles. This group of established, successful magazines complements our existing portfolio. The acquisition underlines our belief in the Swedish market and allows us to further grow our position in Scandinavia. Aller media is a household name among puzzle enthusiasts and Keesing will uphold this reputation with pride and respect going forward,” says Philip Alberdingk Thijm, CEO of Keesing Media Group. “This acquisition is a superb example of the way in which Keesing intends to further strengthen its position as Europe’s leading media company in this segment.”

The sale includes all of Aller media’s crossword brands and will take place during the spring.
